Former Bulldog Nick Watney is charging toward his first
major championship, standing in second place just 1 shot off the lead as the second
round of the 2010 PGA Championship was concluding. Watney finished his second
round with a 4-under par round of 68 at the Whistling Straits course in
Wisconsin and is 7-under for the tournament, one shot behind leader Matt
Kuchar.
Watney's round included five birdies and one bogey, and he
had to play 25 holes Friday as fog delayed the start of Thursday's opening
round. Several players in the field had to finish their first round on Thursday
before beginning the second round.
Similar weather conditions greeted the field Friday as
nearly half the field will have to finish the second round on Saturday before the
cut-line can be set. Tiger Woods is among the players needing to finish on
Saturday. He is 1-under par for the tournament and only got through six holes of
his second round on Friday afternoon.
Watney, who has won twice on PGA Tour, has tied for 7th
in the both the Master's and the British Open this year. He was the top
American finisher in the British Open last month. This is the final major event
on the PGA Tour this year, as the schedule will now focus on the Fed Ex Cup for
the remainder of the year.
