Jan. 25, 2008 FRESNO, Calif. - Nearly three dozen Fresno State student-athletes from its five fall sports have been named to the 2007 Academic All-Western Athletic Conference team. The team was announced today by the league office for the sports of men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball teams. A total of 262 student-athletes were named to the list for the fall. A total of 35 Bulldogs were honored. Among those were 16 football players, a record number for head coach Pat Hill. Fresno State led the WAC with the most football selections. The Bulldog women's cross country team also led in its sport with seven Academic All-WAC selections. The Bulldog volleyball program produced five Academic All-WAC student-athletes, second-most in the league. Fresno State is now closing in on a milestone of 1,000 Academic All-WAC student-athletes. The Bulldog program has produced 772 Academic All-WAC performers through the years. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
