Women's Golf Adds Two Valley Products to Roster
April 15, 2004
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's golf head coach Angie Cates has announced the signing of Meggie Fagundes and Brittany Cooley to national letters of intent to begin playing for the Bulldogs in the fall of 2004.
Fagundes (Atwater, Calif.) is transferring from Santa Clara, bringing the most Division 1 experience to the inaugural Bulldog squad.
"Meggie's Division 1 experience is a key factor in benefiting the team," Cates said. "She knows what it takes to win at this level."
Fagundes became Santa Clara's first female golfer to capture tournament medalist honors in March of 2003 after winning the Santa Clara Colby Classic by five strokes. As a result, she was named WCC Co-Player of the Month for March. In addition, Fagundes became the first golfer in Santa Clara history to qualify for the Women's U.S. Public Links Championship last summer.
Cooley (Clovis, Calif.), a transfer from Fresno City College, will also join the Bulldogs next fall. She finished second at the Junior College Championships last year and is currently the top player on the Rams' squad. Prior to her collegiate career, she qualified for high school Valley Championships and State Championships four consecutive years.
"Brittany is familiar with Fresno's courses, which will definitely contribute to the team," Cates said.
Fagundes and Cooley join Laura Luethke as members of Cates' first recruiting class. Cates anticipates the signing of additional players to the Fresno State roster throughout the month of April.
