Courtney Jantz

In registering one of the great come-from-behind efforts in program history, junior Courtney Jantz was named's Athlete of the Week for May 10-16.

A Klein, Texas, native, Jantz won the clinching match against 11th-seeded California as Fresno State upset the Golden Bears 4-3 on Sunday in a second round NCAA Tournament match in Berkeley.

But simply stating that Jantz won the match would be cutting out major details on what may go down as the biggest victory in program history. After losing the first set 6-4, she evened the match by winning the second 6-4. But Jantz got into trouble immediately in the third, going down 4-0. After getting back to 4-2, her opponent, Jessica Shu, went up 5-2, love-40 on Jantz's serve.

After evening the game score at deuce, Jantz saved another match point before winning the game and then breaking Shu to cut the deficit to 5-4. She then held without losing a point and then easily broke serve before capping the comeback by holding serve to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

The victory sent the Bulldogs into the round of 16 for just the second time in program history. Fresno State will play host and sixth-seeded Georgia on Thursday at 3 p.m.
