COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - 71 Fresno State student-athletes received 2012-13 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Awards, the conference office announced Monday.
Fresno State's women's track and field program had the most MW Scholar-Athlete honorees of any of the Bulldogs' teams with 11, followed by eight for the equestrian team as well as seven each on the soccer, softball, and volleyball squads. The Bulldogs' baseball team led all Fresno State male teams with six players earning the conference's academic recognition.
As a conference, the Mountain West featured a league-record 623 records, including 54 individuals who achieved a 4.00 or higher cumulative grade point average over two or more terms, and 63 student-athletes who were recognized in multiple sports. The 623 honorees surpass the previous Conference high of 581 in 2010-11.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
