July 12, 2005 FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno State Athletics Media Relations office was recently recognized again by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the organization's annual sports publication awards contest. Media guides, game programs and posters are submitted to CoSIDA for judging every year on a district level and then ranked nationally. Fresno State, which is in District Eight, came away with five awards in 2004-05. The Fresno State softball media guide took top honors by placing first in the nation and the district. The Bulldogs' football media guide ranked 13th nationally and first in the district. The women's cross country, volleyball and track and field media guides also garnered honors in the contest. Last year, Fresno State won five CoSIDA awards and had an all-time high of seven awards in 1996-97. "It's great any time our athletics department can get recognized nationally and I think it's an honor for our Media Relations office" said DeAnna Turner, Fresno State's Publications Coordinator. Turner is responsible for all of the media guides, including their design and layout. The contest field includes all NCAA Division I schools. Fresno State is in District Eight which is comprised of schools from: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia. Fresno State's award-winning publications in 2004-05 include: CoSIDA was founded in 1957 and includes over 1,800 members in the United States and Canada. The association is specifically designed to help sports information directors at all levels. "It's a great tribute to DeAnna Turner and the rest of our staff who work hard and are very creative. They continue to be recognized both regionally and nationally for their excellence in publications. Their hard work and dedication should be commended because what they do best depicts the outstanding accomplishments of our Bulldog student-athletes," said Steve Weakland, Assistant Athletics Director of Communications. |
