KANSAS CITY --- In recognition of the outstanding achievements and successes of women working in athletics, NACWAA announced today that Fresno State's Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Betsy Mosher was named its 2012 Football Bowl Subdivision Administrator of the Year.
"Betsy Mosher is simply one of the very best administrators in all of Division I athletics and it is most fitting that this very special NACWAA honor is conferred upon her at this time," Fresno State Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh said.
During her tenure at Fresno State, Mosher has helped guide the Bulldogs to significant improvements in the department's Academic Progress Rate, equity in participation and financial aid and student-athlete welfare initiatives. Mosher has established herself as a national leader in fostering an elite and equitable student-athlete experience.
"Throughout the past seven years, Betsy's extraordinary leadership, guided by her substantial professional experience, keen insight and diligence, has been a key component to the comprehensive transformation of the Fresno State Department of Athletics," Boeh said.
She came to Fresno State in 2005 as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Program Integrity/SWA in October 2005 before her promotion in July 2011 to Deputy AD/SWA.
With an extensive background that includes prominent leadership positions at three NCAA Division I institutions as well as with the Big Ten Office and the NCAA, Mosher's duties at Fresno State include the supervision of athletics programs as well as oversight of the department's NCAA and Mountain West Conference compliance programs, student-athlete services, the athletic training and the strength and conditioning departments.
Prior to her move into administration, Mosher was the head women's basketball and softball coach at California State (Pa.) from 1980-85 and began her collegiate athletics career as the women's basketball coach at Wisconsin-Whitewater (1977-79).
Receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Illinois State in 1972, a Master of Arts degree in Physical Education from Northern Colorado in 1976, and a Director's Degree from Indiana University (1986), Mosher also was selected to attend the NACWAA Institute for Athletics Executive in the summer of 2002.
The Administrator of the Year Award, sponsored by Jostens, is presented annually to NACWAA members for significant contributions made as athletics administrators. In addition, the Nell Jackson Administrator of the Year Award honors an administrator who exemplifies the personal qualities and professional accomplishments of Dr. Nell Jackson: courage, conviction and perseverance.
"In short, Betsy has led thousands of student-athletes and colleagues at several institutions throughout her colorful and prodigious career," Boeh said. "I join our entire community in enthusiastically applauding this richly deserved Administrator of the Year award and deeply thank her for all that she has done for the Fresno State Bulldogs."
Nominated by their peers and selected by the NACWAA Awards Committee for their service during 2011-12, the 2012 honorees are:
