FRESNO, Calif. - With the fall season beginning, the Bulldog Foundation reached out to volunteers, donors and former student-athletes over a three-day span to show appreciation and build excitement leading into the 2011-12 sport season.
The week began with an Ambassador's Evening held at the Save Mart Center on Tuesday night. The special program featured current and past volunteers for the Bulldog Foundation and current Club Red members, along with inaugural members of the Bulldog Ambassador Society.
Fresno State head coaches Pat Hill, Lauren Netherby-Sewell, Scott Winsor and Brian Zwaschka spoke at the event, along with current student-athletes Kendall VanDine (soccer), Marrijtje Molenhuis (cross country), Korrin Wild (volleyball) and Derek Carr (football).
"This week has been full of wonderful events, that have really showed the pride that the community has towards Fresno State," Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Paul Ladwig said. "It's great to surround Fresno State Athletics with such well-rounded individuals as we continue to move forward."
On Wednesday night, the Bulldog Foundation teamed up with the Fresno Grizzlies to host BDF Appreciation night at Chuckchansi Park. The Grizzlies wore special Fresno State game jerseys that were auctioned off following the game, with the proceeds benefitting the Bulldog Foundation.
Prior to the game, Fresno State President Dr. Welty threw out the first pitch, while BDF members and fans also honored his birthday. Head Men's Basketball Coach Rodney Terry welcomed the crowd to the game and gave a pre-game pep talk.
Fresno State's marching band performed prior to the game and during the seventh inning, while cheer, dance and TimeOut made appearances.
The week concluded with the Fresno Lexus Donor Appreciation Event held at Fresno Lexus. The event featured guest speakers, Pat Hill, Rodney Terry, Lauren Netherby-Sewell and Jeanne Fleck. Fresno State coaches, Mike Watney, Stephanie Reeves, Julia Scrivani, Alexis Edwards, Jay Udwadia and Simon Thibodeau.
