FRESNO, Calif. - There's nothing like a college football Saturday. Fans and alumni will gather to renew friendships, wear their colors and cheer on their school.
From the smells of a tailgate barbeque, to the sights and sounds of the spirit squad and band, to the roar of wildly pounding thundersticks, fans from all over America begin a wonderful ritual this weekend. College football season is here.
This wonderful tradition at Fresno State involves the color red. Lots of red!
But Fresno State is more than the Red Wave. There are many special events planned for the 2007 season opener at Bulldogs Stadium. Here are some of the activities for fans this Saturday when the Dogs host Sacramento State.
> LANOTTE REFRIGERATION COOLZONE
New this year, Lanotte Refrigeration is sponsoring the water-misting fans and weight room cooling area for fan comfort at the first two home games Sept. 1 and 29. Cooling fans will be located in the Northwest and Northeast corners of the Bulldog Stadium concourse and their use is free of charge to fans. To combat the heat, fans will also be able to access water at several concession locations throughout Bulldog Stadium. Carts will run throughout the game to get fans to cooling areas.

David Carr JERSEY RETIREMENT
One of the greatest players in Fresno State history will have his jersey retired. David Carr will be at the game, along with his family, as Fresno State will honor the former record-setting quarterback. Carr's jersey will be retired during halftime ceremonies. Fresno State will distribute 15,000 David Carr Cheer Cards on game day and 500 kids, ages 14-and under, will received a free David Carr T-shirt at Bulldog Boulevard.
Presented by the Fresno State Alumni Association and sponsored by Table Mountain, Save Mart Supermarkets and KMJ News Talk 580, Bulldog Boulevard will be the place to be for families and fans of all ages before every home Fresno State football game. Come see a free live concert from "Souled Out" on the Table Mountain Stage. There are lots of games to play and free prizes to win. Try out your golf skills on the Roger Dunn Driving Range Challenge or the Putt For Dough and you may win a $10,000 cash prize! Bring the kids for the inflatable games, and see the all-new "Dog Pound" complete with plasma screen TV's and the latest and best video games. There will be great food from Pizza Hut, Subway and Forstierre's Italian Deli with ice cold Pepsi products to slake your thirst. Located in the Red Lot near the east gate of Bulldog Stadium at Cedar and Barstow, Bulldog Boulevard will open four hours before game time and close down 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Admission is free and open to the public. Former Bulldog quarterback David Carr will make a public appearance at Bulldog Boulevard on Saturday.
For many, a college football game experience begins many hours before kickoff. They will gather with family and friends, eating great food made over an open flame and downing their favorite beverages. Kids will be playing pick-up games, tossing the football around parking and tailgate lots. Loud music or the sounds of sports radio talk shows will blare from car stereos or RVs.
At Fresno State, the following tailgating rules are in place to provide fans with a safe and fun environment.
FRESNO STATE TAILGATING RULES
The University welcomes responsible "tailgating". It is part of the pageantry and culture of college sports. In order to provide for a safe and responsible experience, if you "tailgate" we ask you to observe these campus rules:
THE BULLDOG SHOP
The Bulldog Shop, located at the corner of Cedar and Barstow, is the center for distribution of the Red Wave's Fresno State apparel needs. Bulldog apparel can also be purchased during events at the Save Mart Center, and kiosks throughout Bulldog Stadium, at Beiden Field, and at Bulldog Diamond. The Bulldog Shop opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
There are no alcohol sales or consumption of alcohol in Bulldog Stadium. Alcohol or alcohol containers prohibited from entering Bulldog Stadium. Stadium ushers and security will enforce this rule. Intoxicated individuals will be removed from the stadium.
GENERAL PUBLIC PARKING
General Public Parking is available on the east side campus off Shaw and Woodrow. There is a shuttle will take you to the stadium Parking is $8 on campus and the shuttle is free.
A LIMITED number of Handicapped parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-serve basis near the stadium off Cedar and Bulldog Lane. Your state parking permit is necessary for access to all handicapped parking areas. You must pay the appropriate parking fee. Enter through Gate 10 off Bulldog Lane.
CHESTNUT AVENUE REMAINS CLOSED
Chestnut Avenue remains under construction. Fans are urged to enter off of Willow to gain access to Barstow. Barstow traffic from Cedar Avenue is one-way heading west after games.
Due to the unseasonably warm weather, Fresno State is providing the following cooling options for the comfort of Bulldog fans.
