FRESNO, Calif. - At the October 26 and November 3rd home football games, Fresno State fans helped support donation drives for the Community Food Bank. The Community Food Bank has been feeding the hungry in the Central Valley since 1992.

"It was an honor to work together to tackle hunger in the valley," said Dr. Julie Olson-Buchanan, Department Chair of Management, Craig School of Business. "It was particularly inspiring to witness first-hand the generosity of the Bulldog fans, the campus community and the entire Fresno area."

Today, they service more than 170 agencies and more than 46,000 individuals on any given week. Fresno State Football, Sierra Pacific Orthopedic & Spine Center, the Fresno State Department of Management and the Community Food Bank would like to thank all the Red Wave fans for their generous donations.

Together we collected 119,242 pounds of food to help tackle hunger in the valley.

"We, here at the Community Food Bank, would like to extend our sincerest "Thank You" for helping us this holiday season," said Richard Cervantes, Director of Warehouse Operations. "We were concerned that there would not be enough items to fill this year's Holiday Meal boxes but with the continued support and efforts made by Fresno State things are certainly looking much brighter.

Thirty-eight percent of the members served by the Community Food Bank are 18 and under and 68 percent of the people served have incomes below the official federal poverty level.

Fresno State joined in three events this fall with the Community Food Bank: the Southern California Wildfire Relief Effort at the October 26 football game against Boise State, the Canned Food Drive at the November 3 football game versus Utah State and an on campus canned food drive the week leading up to the November 3rd game.

"On behalf of the Fresno State football team we extend our greatest appreciation to those who helped provide food to those who are in need," said head football coach Pat Hill.
