FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Jamie Kimbrough rushed for 184 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown as Fresno State beat Texas-El Paso 32-6 on Saturday night in the Western Athletic Conference.
Fresno State (2-5 overall, 2-2 WAC) limited UTEP (2-5, 2-2) to 12 yards rushing in the first half and 92 overall. UTEP entered the game averaging 205 yards on the ground.
Kimbrough scored on a 3-yard run and added the two-point conversion to give Fresno State a 8-0 lead in the first quarter. He had a 57-yard run in the second quarter to set up Billy Volek's 5-yard scoring pass to Scott Thompson.
UTEP made it 15-3 with Ricky Bishop's 40-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Fresno State's Payton Williams returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter, and Kimbrough had a 55-yard run in the quarter to set up Volek's 16-yard TD pass to Eric Mahanke.
The teams traded field goals in the quarter, with Bishop making a 36-yarder and Fresno State's Jeff Hanna connecting from 46 yards.
Fresno State, which had just 574 yards on the ground in its previous six games combined, ran for 271 against the Miners.
