EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Rocky Perez threw for one touchdown and ran for another as Texas-El Paso beat Fresno State 23-13 on Saturday night.
UTEP (6-2, 5-0 Western Athletic Conference) extended its winning streak to five games, while Fresno State (3-3, 2-1) had its three-game winning streak snapped.
Perez was 20-for-29 for 212 yards, tying a school record by throwing for more than 200 yards in seven consecutive games.
Lee Mays had nine catches for 83 yards and a touchdown.
UTEP's Brian Natkin caught six passes for 88 yards.
The Miners scored touchdowns on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead, and added a safety in the second period.
UTEP stretched its lead to 23-0 with 8:59 left in the third period when Chris Porter scored on a 4-yard run.
Fresno State's David Carr completed 14 of 31 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. Carr also ran for 37 yards and a TD.
The Bulldogs cut UTEP's lead to 23-13 with 11:44 left in the game when Carr hit Charles Smith with a 5-yard touchdown pass.
UTEP sacked Carr five times and held the Bulldogs to 235 total yards.
