Pulliam fires opening-round 65, shines on first day of Alister Mackenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. – Fresno State finds itself tied for ninth in the 16-team field after 36 holes at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational, but the story of the day belonged to Lane Pulliam. The true freshman impressed in his first outing in the Bulldog lineup as he also sits tied for ninth, in the individual standings.
Pulliam posted a 6-under-par 65 in the opening round. He was 3-under-par on both the front and back nines as his strong performance put him tied for third after 18 holes.
The first-year Bulldog came back down to earth a bit in the second round as he followed with an even-par 71. Pulliam still finished with a stellar two-round total of 136, 6-under-par.
Justin Avery also put together a solid 36 holes as the senior shot an even-par 71 in the first round and a 2-under-par 69 in the second round, the best 18-hole score among the 'Dogs in round two. Avery is tied for 26th heading into Tuesday.
Cody Riecks carded a sub-par round to start the day, firing a 1-under-par 70 in round one. The redshirt junior then shot a 3-over-par 74 in the second round to finish Monday 2-over-par.
Alex Lee went 76-72 in the first 36 holes of the tournament, totaling a 6-over-par 148.
Michael Cliff also finished day one at 6-over-par.
Play at Meadow Club will resume tomorrow with the final round as tee times begin on hole No. 10 at 7:40 a.m. and hole No. 1 at 8 a.m. PT.
