Eppright, Schwanz among nominees for 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year

The Fresno State student-athletes are two of the Mountain West's nine nominees this year for the award.
INDIANAPOLIS – Fresno State seniors Maggie Eppright and Annemarie Schwanz have each been selected as nominees for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the organization announced.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership. Next, conferences assess their member school nominees and select up to two conference nominees. The Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will then choose the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division.

Maggie Eppright - Volleyball
A 2017 graduate of Fresno State, Maggie Eppright wrapped up her four-year Bulldog volleyball career last fall as the program leader in digs per set (3.89) and second in program history in digs with 1,788 to finish fourth in Mountain West history in digs.

A captain as a senior, Eppright led the Bulldogs to a 15-14 overall mark in 2016 for the 'Dogs third winning season since 2012. The San Luis Obispo native also finished third in program history in sets played (459) and tied for fifth in matches played (125).Â

A CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team selection in 2016, Eppright was also a standout in the classroom during her time as a Bulldog completing her degree in interior design with a 3.93 GPA.

Eppright earned CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team as a sophomore in 2014 and was a three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection.

Annemarie Schwanz – Cross Country/Track and Field
On June 10, 2017, Annemarie Schwanz became the first two-time All-American distance runner in program history after earning after second-team honors in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. In 2016, she placed seventh at the championships in the event.
 The fifth-year senior became a three-time Mountain West champion this year after adding the 2017 indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 meters gold medals to her list of career accomplishments. With this spring's win in the 1,500 meters at the MW Championships, she became only the second athlete in conference history to win back-to-back championships in the event with the first occurring from 2002-03. The native of Neuruppin, Germany added four all-conference honors to her career total which currently sits at seven. In all, she broke or reset five of her eight schools records during the 2016-17 season. During the semifinals of the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Schwanz also broke the Mountain West's record in the 1,500 meters.
On June 23, she was selected to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic Division I Track & Field/Cross Country All-America First Team. She boasts a 4.0 GPA while working toward her master's degree in civil engineering.
She is a three-time Mountain West Scholar Athlete and Academic Team honoree while also being a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection, two from track and field and once for cross country. She is a two-time selection on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
