
79 Bulldogs earn MW Scholar-Athlete Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State had 79 student-athletes earn 2016-17 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at their member institution, maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better and have participated in a Mountain West sponsored varsity competition. Including this year's 79 award winners, 356 Fresno State student-athletes have acquired this prestigious academic distinction since joining the league in 2012. Â
Fresno State has previously marked 71 award-winners in 2012-13, 50 in 2013-14, 74 in 2014-15 and 82 honorees a year ago. Overall, the Mountain West set a new conference record with 756Â total recipients, surpassing the previous league-high of 734 in 2015-16.
For the third-consecutive year, Fresno State was led by the women's swimming and diving team with a department-best 13 honorees - the most ever by a single Fresno State program since joining the league in 2012. 13 additional teams earned recognition including women's soccer (11), women's basketball (8), volleyball (7), women's track and field (6), baseball (5), women's golf (5), softball (5), women's tennis (5), men's golf (4), men's basketball (3), football (3), men's tennis (2) and men's track and field (2).
