Equestrian Senior Spotlight: Alysa Frias
FRESNO, Calif. - The sixth senior to be introduced before Senior Day on Saturday is Bakersfield, Calif. native, Alysa Frias.
Frias is a western rider for the Bulldogs and has been a part of the program for four years. Frias saw her most success as a sophomore going 6-6, 4-1 in UEC competition, in reining with four Most Outstanding Player accolades.
In her senior campaign, Frias is 0-1 in the reining with her only competition being in the 'Dogs 10-8 loss to then-No. 2 Georgia on Sept. 29.
Frias sat down with GoBulldogs.com to reflect on her time as a Bulldog and her plans after graduation.
Q: Why did you choose Fresno State?
Frias: "I chose Fresno State because the team made me feel very welcome while I was on my recruiting trip. I felt like it was the perfect fit for me and a great opportunity for me to learn from some incredible riders."
Q: Who is your biggest riding influence?
Frias: "My biggest riding influence has been Tracer Gilson, he has helped me grow as a rider and really taken the time to make me a better rider and competitor."
Q: What advice would you give to future Bulldogs?
Frias: "I would tell future Bulldogs to really take in and enjoy their college experience because it goes by quicker than you think."
Q: What is your most memorable win in the arena as a Bulldog?
Frias: "My most memorable win was my first win at home after my surgery. I got to ride my favorite horse Craig and won a MOP."
Q: Who was your favorite horse to ride?
Frias: "My favorite horse is Craig. We get along really well and he has taught me a lot about the sport. I have been lucky enough to take him home with me over the summers."
Q: How would your teammates describe you?
Frias: "My teammates would say that I am blunt and sarcastic but they can always come to me for anything...including tacos."
Q: What will you miss most about being a part of the equestrian program?
Frias: "I am going to miss the horses and my teammates. I have met some incredible people through this team that have influenced not only the rider I am but also the person I have grown to be."
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
Frias: "After graduation I will move to Aubrey, Texas to work for McCutcheon Reining Horses as a member of their breeding program."
