Bulldog Wrestling tripped up at Oregon State

Redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Isaiah Hokit picked up a win in the 'Dogs 33-3 loss at Oregon State on Monday night in a non-conference dual at Gil Coliseum.
CORVALLIS, ORE. - The Fresno State Bulldog wrestling team fell at Oregon State, 33-3 on Monday night in a non-conference dual at Gil Coliseum.
"Tonight was a tough learning experience for us as a team. We will need to regroup and get ready for another tough environment Friday night at Iowa State," said head coach Troy Steiner.
With the dual starting at the traditional weight of 125 pounds, the Beavers' Ronnie Bresser, ranked No. 6 in the nation, was able to record a pair of takedowns in the first period over the 'Dogs Sean Williams to take a 4-1 lead before racing off to a 15-3 major decision.
The 'Dogs fought tough at the next two weights as freshman 133-pounder Trevor Williams used a first-period reversal to tie his match against Devan Turner at 2-2 before the Oregon State freshman added two more takedowns to record a 8-4 win. Chris De Loza battled tough at 141 pounds recording an early takedown for a 2-0 lead, but the Beavers' Jack Hathaway scored seven straight points on his way to a 10-6 win over De Loza.
The upset of the dual came at 149 pounds as the 'Dogs No. 19-ranked Khristian Olivas battled Josh Reyes taking a 2-0 lead to start the second period with a reversal, but Reyes was able to escape and record two takedowns of Olivas for a 6-3 win.
Sophomore Greg Gaxiola fell at 157 pounds by a fall before the Bulldogs' lone win of the dual came at 165 pounds by redshirt sophomore Isaiah Hokit. The Clovis native used two first-period takedowns to take a 4-1 lead over Rodney Williams before another takedown in the second period pushed the score it to 6-3 as neither wrestler scored in the final period. Hokit moves to 15-14 overall on the season and 7-11 in dual action.
After a scoreless first two periods at 174 pounds, redshirt sophomore Dominic Kincaid started the third period with an escape for a 1-0 lead, but Oregon State's Myles Terry used a takedown and a four-point near-fall to lock up a 6-3 win.
The 'Dogs looked to notch their second win of the dual at 184 pounds as redshirt sophomore Richie Brandt took an early 5-2 lead with a takedown and two-point near-fall and led the Beavers' Bob Coleman, 6-5 after one period. Trailing 8-6 after two periods, Brandt started the third period on bottom picking up a quick escape to bring the match within one, but a takedown by Coleman and point for riding time gave him an 11-7 win.
Oregon State claimed major decision wins at 197 pounds and heavyweight to finish off the dual as the 'Dogs scored their fewest points in a dual this season.
Fresno State (4-14, 1-3 B12) stays on the road returning to Big 12 action traveling to Iowa State (7-8, 2-5 B12) on Friday night for a dual at Hilton Coliseum at 5 p.m. PT.
