• Senior Savannah McHellon has hit 6 home runs and 3 doubles and has 16 RBIs over the last nine games. McHellon leads the MW and is tied for fourth in NCAA Div. I with 12 homers this season.
• Fresno State leads the Mountain West and is tied for 15th in NCAA Div. I with 30 home runs in 28 games played this season. The Bulldogs have hit at least one home run in 13 of their last 16 games.
• The 'Dogs are 10-4 at home this year, having outscored the opposition 94-47 while hitting .319 with 13 home runs and tallying a 2.94 team ERA. They conclude a 12-game homestand this week.
• The eight other MW softball programs opened conference play last weekend with Boise State and San Jose State starting 3-0. Fresno State was picked third in the preseason MW Coaches' Poll.
• Colorado State went 2-1 against Nevada last weekend. Picked 6th in the preseason MW poll, the Rams lead the league with a 2.44 team ERA and are second with a .313 team batting average.
Scouting Colorado State (15-7, 2-1 MW)
• Colorado State began MW play last weekend hosting Nevada. The Rams pulled out two close wins, 4-3 in 10 innings and 2-0, while dropping the middle game of the series, 4-2.
• The Rams improved to 8-1 at home this season but they are 1-2 on the road and 6-4 in neutral site game. Colorado State beat Wisconsin to open the season and had a victory at Texas but, like the Bulldogs, dropped games against Arizona and CSUN.
• Colorado State leads the MW with a 2.44 team ERA and has conference lows in hits, runs, and home runs allowed. The squad also leads the league with 9 triples and is second with a .313 team batting average and ranks third in NCAA Div. I with 0.64 double plays turned per game.
• Sarah Muzik is hitting .467 and leads the MW with a .524 on-base percentage while Bridgette Hutton is one of the top pitchers in the league at 9-4 with a 1.80 ERA over 14 appearances.
• The Rams were picked 6th in the preseason MW poll after going 28-22 (9-15 MW) last year.
20th Anniversary of WCWS Title Celebration (More on the 1998 Team)
• Several team members as well as Coach Margie Wright will be in attendance on Saturday as Fresno State honors the 20th anniversary of the 1998 National Championship.
• Fresno State is the only non-Power 5 school that has won a WCWS national title since 1986 and is one of just two non-Power 5 schools to ever win the WCWS since its inception in 1982 (Cal State Fullerton, 1986).
McHellon Mashing
• Senior Savannah McHellon has been on an absolute tear over the last two weeks (nine games) as she has hit 6 home runs and 3 doubles and has 16 RBIs.
• She has hit five home runs in four games over the last two Fridays, including two run-rule walk-off homers, her second 2-homer game of the season, and her second grand slam this year. She has also won two games as the starting pitcher in the last two Fridays allowing just two runs and four hits over 8.0 innings.
• McHellon leads the MW and is tied for fourth in NCAA Div. I with 12 homers this season, five more home runs than any other MW player has hit. She also leads the conference in slugging percentage (.831) and total bases (69).
Home Cooking
• Fresno State is in the midst of a 12-game homestand entering MW play.
• In 14 home games this year the 'Dogs are 10-4, having outscored the opposition 94-47 while hitting .319 with 13 home runs and tallying a 2.94 team ERA.
• The win over Monmouth on Mar. 11 was the 900th home victory in program history. The 'Dogs are 902-234-1 all-time at home over 41 seasons.
Super Support
• The red wave has averaged 1,078 fans per game this season, the most among all 20 NCAA Div. I schools in California and the 13th highest attendance average in the nation. The team's total attendance of 15,092 this season is 10th most in all of Div. I.
• Last season Fresno State led the MW and ranked 13th in NCAA Div. I averaging 1,101 fans per game. The 'Dogs drew more fans than any other team in California last year and have averaged more than 1,000 fans per game for 25 consecutive seasons.
They've Got the Power
• Fresno State leads the Mountain West and is tied for 15th in NCAA Div. I with 30 home runs this season. No other MW team has more than 24 homers this year.
• The Bulldogs have hit at least one home run in 13 of their last 16 games and have hit multiple homers in eight games this year.
• Savannah McHellon leads the MW with 12 home runs as eight 'Dogs have homered and six have hit multiple home runs.
High RPI
• The first NCAA Rating Percentage Index (RPI) rankings came out on Monday and Fresno State is No. 62, the second highest in the MW and just behind No. 55 San Jose State.
• The RPI rankings reflect quality wins and strength of schedule as the 'Dogs played a very difficult non-conference slate and have wins over highly ranked teams, including a win over Notre Dame (No. 28) and three vs. Cal Poly (65).
Galvan-izing the Offense
• Hitting in the clean-up spot, sophomore transfer Hayleigh Galvan leads the Bulldogs in batting average (.364) and leads the team and is second in the MW with a .517 on-base percentage.
• With 24 hits (including five home runs and five doubles), 14 walks, and eight hit-by-pitches Galvan has reached base in more than half of her plate appearances this year.
• The Oklahoma State transfer has been especially strong at home, as she has reached base in all 14 home games the 'Dogs have played this year while hitting .457 with a .574 OBP and 10 RBIs at Margie Wright Diamond.
Taking Several for the Team
• The Bulldogs have been hit by a pitch 40 times this season, more than double the second highest total in the MW (Colorado State/Nevada - 16).
• The 'Dogs are already just two hit-by-pitches away from the single season program record of 42, set in 2009. The MW record for HBP in a season is 45 (Colorado State, 2016).
• Fresno State hitters have recorded at least one hit-by-pitch in 17 games this season and have been hit multiple times in 13 games with a season-high five hit-by-pitches vs. Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara.
• Hayleigh Galvan and Emily Brodner are tied for the Mountain West lead with eight hit-by-pitches.
Running Free
• Fresno State had been successful on 21 consecutive stolen base attempts over 12 games before a caught stealing on Sunday.
• The Bulldogs were 15-for-15 in steals in the Fresno State Invitational and rank third in the MW with 33 stolen bases this year.
• Miranda Rohleder, who leads the team with 13 steals in 14 attempts, is 6-for-6 in steals over the last 13 games while Brooke Coates is 5-for-5.
Walk-Offs
• The Bulldogs have seven walk-off wins this season, five of which have come via the 8-run mercy rule.
• Savannah McHellon (3), Katie Castellon, and Schuylar Broussard have hit walk-off homers.
• The 'Dogs have two walk off wins in tied games on homers from Castellon (vs. Notre Dame) and McHellon (vs. Cal Poly).
Irregular Innings
• Thirteen of Fresno State's 28 games so far this season were not completed in the standard seven innings. The team has played seven 5-inning games, three 6-inning games, two 8-inning games, and one 9-inning game.
• The Bulldogs did not play a seven-inning game until their fifth contest of the season.
On Base a Lot
• As a team the Bulldogs rank second in the MW with a .399 on-base percentage after tallying a .373 mark at the end of the 2017 season.
• Hayleigh Galvan leads the team with a .517 on-base percentage this year while six other Bulldogs have an on-base percentage at or above .400.
Doubling Up
• Fresno State is tied for second in the MW with 14 double plays turned and has hit into only three double plays this season.
• The 'Dogs turned a pair of double plays in consecutive games against Wisconsin and No. 3 LSU.

• Sophomore Miranda Rohleder had four triples over the last three Fresno State games in the Bulldog Classic, including a two-triple game against Pacific.
• Rohleder is tied for eighth in NCAA Div. I as only seven players have more than four triples this year. Her four triples are as many as five Mountain West squads have as a team.
Non-Conference Non-Easy
• Fresno State faced six ranked teams in non-conference play, having played four of the top 10 teams in the current NFCA/USA Today coaches' poll.
