'Dogs fall in Mountain West opener

Fresno State (6-8, 0-1), who fell to 5-4 in MW openers, totaled 10 hits on the afternoon with three extra-base knocks, including the first career home run for Payton Allen.
Ivan Luna had a season-high three hits smacking a pair of doubles and Josh Lauck notched a pair of singles and drove in a RBI.
On the mound, Jake Dixon tossed a season-high six innings allowing nine hits, five runs, four earned and struck out six before giving way to Kyle Pruhsmeier and Matt Ottino who saw action for one inning apiece.
How It Happened
The Lobos jumped out to a 5-0 lead scoring on an RBI triple in the second before a four-run third inning put the Lobos up, 5-0. Back-to-back RBI base knocks followed by a sacrifice fly gave UNM three runs and a fielding error by Nate Thimjon in right field that went off the end of his glove brang home one more run.
The 'Dogs slowing started to chip away at the deficit with one run apiece over the next three innings getting an RBI single by Lauck in the fourth, a solo home run by Allen in the fifth and Mason Grotto tacked on an RBI groundout in the sixth.
A solo home run by Lenny Junior Ashby in the seventh gave the Lobos a three-run lead and the Lobos added a final run in the eighth after a Bulldog error.
