'Dogs drop series finale to Wildcats

FRESNO, Calif. - The Diamond 'Dogs wrapped up their series against Abilene Christian with a 6-3 setback on Saturday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

With the game starting under rainy skies before turning to sun later in the game, Fresno State (17-18) was stifled offensively for most of the afternoon being held to seven hits by the Wildcats.

Josh Lauck smacked his team-leading ninth home run while Zach Morgan drilled his 17th double of the season.

On the mound, Roman Angelo tossed a season-best seven innings and struck out a season-high six while allowing six hits, five runs and gave up three walks.

Kyle Pruhsmeier and Tommy Hopfe each tossed one inning apiece to round out the hurlers.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs got the scoring started right off the bat with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Ivan Luna that drove home Ben Newton.

With Angelo keeping the Wildcats to one hit through the first four innings, the Wildcats finally got to the Bakersfield native with three runs in the fifth on a two-run RBI single and an RBI groundout.

ACU added to their lead in the seventh with two more runs collecting back-to-back RBI extra-base knocks and pushed their lead to 6-1 in the ninth with an RBI single from shortstop Bash Randle.

Fresno State was able to get a pair of runs back in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run long ball to left-center by Lauck, but the next three 'Dogs were retired in order to close the game.
