NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills Program
"CHallenging Athletes' Minds for Personal Success"
The mission of the NCAA is to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Fresno State Student-Athlete Services embraces the mission of the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program and has developed services and programs that assist student-athletes in successfully managing academic, athletic, personal, and social responsibilities. Our student-centered staff is dedicated to providing information, resources, and growth opportunities that foster independent learning, autonomy, and responsible leadership. These services are offered to help develop the "whole person", not just the student or an athlete.
Life Skills Development
The Academic Counseling and Enrichment (ACE) Program provides specialized services to student-athletes from all sports who require additional academic support. The program provides assistance in the areas of study skills, learning strategies, goal setting, time management, and college transition. The learning specialist works directly with student-athletes, coaches, and other SAS advisors to ensure ACE student-athletes receive the necessary services to succeed academically at Fresno State.
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes designed to provide insight and offer input in regards to NCAA rules, regulations, and policies that affect the student-athlete experience. SAAC's primary goals are to serve as a liaison between the student-athletes and the athletic administration, promote intra-sport support, create opportunities for service to the community and ultimately provide a forum for student-athletes to voice their ideas and suggestions to enhance the collegiate athletic experience at Fresno State.
Fresno State Transition Programs encompass classes and workshops designed to provide our incoming student-athletes with the necessary tools, resources, and opportunities to achieve academic and athletic success at Fresno State in a way that promotes personal growth and development. The component created for graduating seniors facilitates the transition to professional careers by enhancing the skills needed to be successful contributors in their chosen field.
Bulldog Study Table is an environment that helps create academic enhancement and accountability by: Helping students to take responsibility for their own academic success and performance, collaborating with students and coaches to help recognize the abilities and needs of each individual student-athlete.
