    Steve Weakland enters his fifth year as assistant athletics director at Fresno State. In addition to overseeing the media relations operation for the department, Weakland serves on the executive staff, the athletics budget committee, oversees radio and television contract fulfillment, and video services. He is also the sports supervisor for soccer, cross country, menÕs and womenÕs track and field and womenÕs swimming and diving.

    He is in his fifth year as the media relations contact for football and for three years was the contact for the nationally ranked Bulldog menÕs basketball team. As a spokesman for the department, he can also be heard on KMJÕs "Dog Talk" radio show. Weakland coordinated the media and Heisman Trophy campaigns for NFL No. 1 draft pick David Carr. Under his direction, Fresno State has received unprecedented national media attention.

    Weakland leads the Fresno State media relations office, which has won several national publications awards and its official website, GoBulldogs.com, is considered one of the nationÕs best.

    Weakland, a native of Riverton, Wyo., came to Fresno State from the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he was the Sports Information Director for three years. Weakland served as the media coordinator for the Carrs Great Alaska Shootout, considered the premier holiday college basketball tournament in the nation. While at UAA, he was the media coordinator for the 1999 NCAA Hockey Frozen Four and served on the NCAA Hockey Championship Tournament Executive Committee.

    A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Weakland was an assistant in WyomingÕs sports information office for six years while working with the nationally ranked Cowboy football program.

    He was also the contact person for womenÕs basketball, menÕs and womenÕs golf, and baseball, Weakland wrote a book on the history of University of Wyoming football titled A Million Cheers: 100 Years of Wyoming Cowboy Football. Weakland served on the University of Wyoming Centennial Committee, the Laramie Jubilee Days Committee and the Milward Simpson Award committee.

    WeaklandÕs wife, Kathryn, is the director of the Fresno State Quarterback Club. They have a son, Tyler.
