Fresno State scored 163 points to take first place out of three teams today.

Sacramento, Calif. - Fresno State picked up eleven first place finishes to win todays meet with Sacramento State and Portland State in Sacramento earning 163 points. Fresno State also defeated each team in dual meet action pushing the series record to 30-3 with Sacramento State and 1-0 with Portland State.
In field events alone, Fresno State won six out of the eight events. Bulldogs picked up team points with first place finishes by Matt Drinkwalter (discus, 157-1 and shot put 51-6 1/2), Darrel Higgins (javelin, 184-2), Luke Woydziak (hammer, 209-9), Jim Davis (pole vault,17-6) and freshman Duran Archie who jumped a personal best of 49-1 1/2 in the triple jump.
Senior Mike Ward won the 200 meters race with a time of 21.32 while senior Ron Murray won the 400 hurdles clocking a time of 53.76. Murray also took second in the 100 hurdles with a personal best of 14.49.
Junior Armando Negrete won the 800 meters race running a time of 1:56.94. Newcomer Philip Ogilvie took first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase recording a personal best of 9:49.57. And the Fresno State 4 x 100 meter relay team crossed the finish line in 41.01 to clinch first place.
Some members of the Fresno State mens team will compete at the Decathlon/Heptathllon set to take place this Wednesday and Thursday at Warmerdam Field. The 71st Bob Mathias Fresno Relays will also begin this Thursday with all small high school competition taking place at Warmerdam Field. All other competition will be held at Ratcliffe Stadium Friday and Saturday.
