Women Finish Second at Sacramento State

    Third meet in a row that thrower Sarah Goodlaw has set a PR in the discus.

    Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State finished second out of four teams at a meet hosted by Sacramento State today. Nevada won with 200 points, followed by the Bulldogs with 194, the host Hornets with 149 and Portland State with 69.

    The meet was highlighted by another strong performance from senior thrower Sarah Goodlaw (Burbank, Calif.) as she took first in the discus, hammer and shot put. For the third meet in a row Goodlaw set a personal record in the discus, this time with a throw of 154-1. She also set a PR in the hammer with a throw of 179-8. Her previous best was 172-8, set on March 13.

    Senior Melissa Price (Kingsburg, Calif.) won the pole vault with her highest outdoor vault this season, 14-0. Freshman Brooke Lankard (Visalia, Calif.) took second with a height of 11-2, and junior Aleyna Tomate (Clovis, Calif.) was fourth at 10-8. In the long jump, Mahea Enos (Mesa, Ariz.) took second with a personal best of 18-2 1/2. Junior Brandi Jenkins (Visalia, Calif.) also set a new PR with a jump of 18-0 1/2.

    In the running events senior Tamikio Simpson (San Jose, Calif.) was first in the 400 in a season-best time of 56.19, and also took the top spot in the 200 in a time of 24.81. Freshman Jennifer Smith (Lake of the Pines, Calif.) got one of the biggest wins of her young career when she took first in the 5,000 in a time of 18:14.59.

    Others making a strong showing include Renya Hill (Stockton, Calif.) with a second-place finish in the 100, Jynette Grayson (Stockton, Calif.) in the 400 (3rd-57.87), Enos in the 100 hurdles (3rd-14.70) and Smith in the 3,000 (3rd-10:29.52).

    The Bulldogs swept the relay events, winning the 4x100 relay in a season-best time of 47.27, and taking the 1,500 relay in 3:50.47. Fresno States next events will be the Fresno State Heptathlon/Decathlon at Warmerdam Field, March 31-Apr.1, and the Fresno Relays on Saturday, April 3.
