April 10, 1999
Fresno, Calif. - Senior Sarah Goodlaw (Burbank, Calif.) took first place in the hammer, shot put, discus and javelin as the Bulldogs racked up 169 points to edge out UC Santa Barbara (128 pts.) and San Francisco State (87 pts.) in their last home meet of the season today at Warmerdam Field. The 'Dogs were also victorious in both dual meets, defeating San Francisco State, 122-65 and UC Santa Barbara, 115-79.
Goodlaw set a personal best with her victory in the javelin with a throw of 138-6. She also topped a personal best set earlier this year in the shot put with a toss of 45-8 1/4. That throw ranks fourth all-time in Fresno State history.
In the 100, Angela Daigle (Benecia, Calif.) took first with a time of 11.56, just 1/100th of a second off her personal best. Daigle was part of a 1-2-3 Bulldog sweep in the event with Renya Hill (Stockton, Calif.) finishing second (12.14) and Dwanice Williams (Modesto, Calif.) taking third (12.48). In the 5000 the 'Dogs took home first and second with Jennifer Smith (Lake of the Pines, Calif.) winning in a time of 18:24.04, and Laura Bracht (Modesto, Calif.) finishing second with a time of 18:49.97. Other Fresno State winners included Brandi Jenkins (Visalia, Calif.) in the 100 hurdles (14.60; PR) and long jump (17-8 3/4), Rachel Bauer (Clovis, Calif.) in the 400 hurdles (1:06.67), Melissa Price (Kingsburg, Calif.) in the pole vault (13-6), Erin Boothe (Clovis, Calif.) in the high jump (5-3 3/4; PR), and Rickisha Herron (North Hills, Calif.) in the triple jump (38-3).
Fresno State's relays teams also continued to dominate with wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The team of Daigle, Hill, Williams and Tamikio Simpson ran a season-best time of 46.26 in the 4x100, while Simpson, Jynette Grayson, Williams and Daigle won the 4x400 in a time of 3:56.39.
Although this was the last meet of the season at Warmerdam Field the year is hardly over for the 'Dogs. Their next meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 17 at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
