Track & Field: Price Wins Second NCAA Championship with a New Record

Melissa Price defended her title today at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis.

Indianapolis, Ind. - Melissa Price cleared a height of 13-11 1/4 today at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., defending her national title that she won last year when she cleared the then-NCAA record of 13-10. Price also attempted a height of 14-4 in an effort to surpass her NCAA outdoor record of 14-3 1/2 but was unable to clear it in todays indoor competition.

The Kingsburg natives season best prior to todays competition was 13-5 which she set at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 23. Two weeks ago, Price won her third WAC championship in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a mark of 13-4 1/2.

Price, a senior, will next compete at an outdoor meet at Cal Poly-SLO next Saturday.

Junior Jim Davis (Godley, Texas) will compete in tomorrows NCAA pole vault finals at 5:30 p.m.
