FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State's women's indoor track and field team got its final tune-up for the Mountain West Championships on Monday evening, competing in the Run for the Dream meet at the Save Mart Center.
Sophomore Shakira Lewis set a new personal-best in the 55-meter heats, running a 7.12 seconds to win her section. She followed that up with a 7.14 in the final to win the event. Her previous best came at last year's Run for the Dream when she posted a 7.25. Tanae Turner finished fourth in the 55-meter with a time of 7.36 and Chasity Fellows ran a 7.38 to finish fifth.
In the long jump, senior Ashley Hatcher set a new personal-best in the long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters (17 feet, 5.25 inches). She finished fifth in a field of 19.
The Bulldogs went 1-2 in the triple jump thanks to new personal-best distances for Fabrina Espinoza and Tiera Simpson. Espinoza, a senior, jumped 11.73 meters (38'6") to win the event. Simpson, a freshman out of Sunnyside High in Fresno, jumped 11.69 meters (38'4.25") to finish in the runner-up position.
Meagan McKee, who had just competed over the weekend in Seattle, won both the weight throw and the shot put. Junior Caitlin Byrd, who also competed in Seattle this weekend, finished second in the weight throw with a throw over 18 meters.
Fresno State is back in action February 27-March 1 when they travel to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the Mountain West Indoor Championships.
