'Dogs Finish Seventh at MW Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Fresno State's women's indoor track and field team finished seventh at the Mountain West Conference Championships on the campus of the Air Force Academy on Saturday.

The Bulldogs scored 50 points to improve their standing by two spots from last season. New Mexico won both the men and women's competition.

Fresno State's day was highlighted by what took place in the 400-meter and the 4x440 relay.

Kyra Johnson and Dezirae Johnson finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Kyra finished in 55.23 seconds and sister Dezirae finished just behind her with a time of 55.30. The Johnson sisters each established new career-best times with their performances on Saturday.

The Bulldogs' 4x440 relay team of Je'Nia Sears, Melanie Baran and the Johnson sisters finished second place. They ran a 3:46.89 to finish just a second behind UNLV. The Rebels finished the relay in 3:45.88.

Sophomore Shakira Lewis finished fourth in the 60-meter dash. She finished in 7.54 seconds. Boise State's Mackenzie Flannigan won the race with a time of 7.46.

Fresno State will open the outdoor season next Saturday when they travel to the Cal Opener in Berkeley.
