Bulldogs complete WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State finished out the 2008 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with 69 points for seventh place Saturday in Nampa, Idaho.
Louisiana Tech edged out Hawaii for the championship, 122-121. Idaho placed third with 86 points, followed by Utah State with 85.5 and Boise State with 85. Nevada (83.5) took sixth, followed by Fresno State (69) and New Mexico State (11).
The Bulldogs entered the final day of championship with at least one competitor in each event. Saturday's finals resulted in strong individual performances. Freshman Tiera Hilliard took silver in the 400m dash, timing in at 55.52s. Later in the day, Hilliard placed fifth in the 200m dash at 24.99s. Krystina Jackson made the podium, taking third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.72 seconds. Roxanne Sellick placed fourth in the mile, clocking in at 5:02.58. Marina Santana's 2:17.56 in the 800m was good enough for fifth. Rayna White finished in seventh in the 60m hurdles at 7.81s.
The Bulldog's won the bronze in the 4x400m relay, timing in at 3:48.32.
Sharon Ayala won Fresno State's lone WAC title, championing the weight throw with a finish of 59-11. Janev Morris, Sellick, Santana, and Briana Cleary placed second in the distance relay team clocking in at 12:13.46. Marissa McPhail finished in fifth in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:06.69. Cara Montes cleared 11-10.75 in the pole vault for sixth place. Nancy Vizcarra tossed a season-best of 52-2.5 in the weight throw for seventh.
The meet concludes the indoor season for the Bulldogs, except Ayala, who has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight throw. The outdoor season begins Saturday as Fresno State takes on Stanford and UC Davis in Davis, Calif.
