FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's indoor track and field season kicked off Friday afternoon at the Air Force Holiday Open with promise for a great season ahead.
The 'Dogs dominated the Weight Throw event as four Bulldogs placed in the top-5. Byrd took top honors with an 18.07M throw. Meagan McKee placed third with a mark of 17.85M, while J'Quyra Moncure-Blue (17.54M) finished behind McKee, and AnaManu Folau(16.84M) placed fifth.
"We saw there's a lot more in the tank for Caitlin [Byrd]," said Winsor. "I think she'll steadily climb throughout the year."
Breeauna Thompson led Fresno State in the running events with third-place finishes in the 60M (7.59) and the 300M (40.04). Shakira Lewisran a time of 7.67 in the 60M, which placed her behind Thompson for fourth-place. Wells won her heats in both the 60M (7.93) and the 300M (43.31).
"We have some areas that need to be addressed and improved," said Winsor. "In all, this was a successful weekend to start the 2013 season and end to the 2012 fall training program."
Fresno State will be off for the Christmas break and resume action on Feb. 2 at the Bronco Classic hosted by Boise State.
