FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's indoor track and field season kicked off Friday afternoon at the Air Force Holiday Open with promise for a great season ahead.

"We got off to a very good start," said head coach Scott Winsor. "Je'Nia Sears, Katherine Wells and Caitlin Byrdhad the standout performances of the day."

The 'Dogs dominated the Weight Throw event as four Bulldogs placed in the top-5. Byrd took top honors with an 18.07M throw. Meagan McKee placed third with a mark of 17.85M, while J'Quyra Moncure-Blue (17.54M) finished behind McKee, and AnaManu Folau(16.84M) placed fifth.

"We saw there's a lot more in the tank for Caitlin [Byrd]," said Winsor. "I think she'll steadily climb throughout the year."

In the jumping events the Bulldogs saw Je'Nia Sears win the Long Jump event with a mark of 5.83M. Fabrina Espinozaplaced right behind Sears with a 5.50M jump for third.

Breeauna Thompson led Fresno State in the running events with third-place finishes in the 60M (7.59) and the 300M (40.04). Shakira Lewisran a time of 7.67 in the 60M, which placed her behind Thompson for fourth-place. Wells won her heats in both the 60M (7.93) and the 300M (43.31).

"We have some areas that need to be addressed and improved," said Winsor. "In all, this was a successful weekend to start the 2013 season and end to the 2012 fall training program."

Fresno State will be off for the Christmas break and resume action on Feb. 2 at the Bronco Classic hosted by Boise State.
