FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State women's indoor track and field team travels to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. this weekend to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships.

The men's Heptathlon and women's Pentathlon will be contested on Thursday and the rest of the events will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Head coach Scott Winsor and his Bulldogs will be looking to improve on last season's ninth-place finish at the conference championships.

Junior Je'Nia Sears, the 2013 Indoor Mountain West Long Jump champion, has posted the top mark for the conference in 2014. The Fresno native jumped 20 feet, 2.5 inches at the Alex Wilson Invitational this past weekend at Notre Dame. She is the only Mountain West athlete to record a jump of at least 20 feet this season.

Shakira Lewis enters the weekend ranked No. 4 in the 60-meter dash. The sophomore recorded a time of 7.56 at the UW Invitational to post her fastest time of her Bulldog career.

In the 400-meter, sisters Kyra Johnson and Dezirae Johnson are each ranked in the top ten in the conference. Kyra is third in the conference with her time of 56.46 that came at the season-opening Air Force Invitational. Dezirae is ninth with a 56.91 at the UW Invitational.

Senior Carina Mendoza ranks second in the 3000-meter behind Boise State's Emma Bates. Mendoza broke the school record by more than seven seconds when she posted a time of 9:40.42 at the UW Invitational.

Fresno State also figures to do well in the 4x400 Relay where they enter as the No. 1 team in the conference. Their 3:45.15 at the UW Husky Classic in February is almost two seconds better than No. 2 UNLV.

In the weight throw, Fresno State's Meagan McKee is ranked fifth in the Mountain West entering competition this weekend. Her top throw of the season was 19.77m (64'-10.5") at the UW Husky Classic. That throw was just off of the school record mark set in 2009.
