Sharon Ayala broke the Fresno State 20-pound weight throw record Friday, en route to All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Ayala, a senior from Avenal, Calif., finished sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 66-feet, 6-inches (20.26 meters). Ayala had to surpass four nationally ranked opponents to move from her entering ranking of No. 10 to sixth in the nation. She was Fresno State's first female athlete to compete for an NCAA Indoor Championship since 1999.
