Sharon Ayala has been named the Toyota/Gobulldogs.com Athlete of the Week for her performances last week at the USC Invitational, Saturday. Ayala, from Avenal, Calif. And transfer from Fresno City College, broke her own record in the hammer throw with a toss of 201-9 (61.49m) last week. The junior initially broke the record, formerly held by Staci Darden at 191-11 in 1996, in the first week of outdoor season at the UC Davis Quadrangular with a mark of 200-5 (61.10m). Saturday's performance upped that mark by more than a foot. Both marks more than surpassed the NCAA Regional Qualifying mark.
