FRESNO, Calif.- Four running events and a handful of throwing competitions represent the only remaining action on the opening day of the Cal-Nevada Championships at Warmerdam Field.

Fresno State squad members have enjoyed success throughout the prelim round, most notably in the throws.

Earlier this morning, Brian Vazquez improved on a personal-best established last week as he threw 191-3 (58.30) to lead the field in the hammer and advance to Saturday's final.

On the women's side, Aspen Marshall became an NCAA Regional qualifier in the shot put when she tossed 47-1.75 (14.37) for the second-best mark of the day. Teammate Mallory Webb, who notched a personal-best last week in the javelin, posted a throw of 164-2 (50.05) to lead all participants. Both advance to Saturday's finals.

Last year, the Fresno State women's squad captured the team title while the men's team placed second as the Bulldogs hosted the Cal-Nevada Championships.
