FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Remington Blair and junior Breeauna Thompson were named Western Athletic Conference Verizon Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Sacramento State Mondo Mid-Major Challenge (April 14), the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
This marked the second time Fresno State has swept conference honors this year, but the first time since 2009 the Bulldogs have swept the weekly track honors.
Blair, a Reedly, Calif. native, won the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 47.66 seconds. He also ran in the 4x400m relay that finished .08 seconds behind the winner and just .01 seconds off the team's season-best at 3:15.29. Fresno State now holds the top two 4x400m relay times in the WAC.
Thompson, who was named Fresno State's Sysco Student-Athlete of the Week Monday, won both the 200m and 400m races with season-best times. The Edison High School graduate finished just .04 seconds off her personal best time in the 200m. She currently ranks first in the WAC and 46th in the West region in the event. Thompson also ran in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays at Mondo, where she helped both squads to season-best times. The Bulldogs hold the second fastest 4x100m time in the conference.
This is the second time the pair have earned weekly WAC awards in their career. Frank Sanders and Latrisha Jordan were the last 'Dogs to sweep weekly track honors (March 30, 2009). Junior Roderick Dash and sophomore Meagan McKee swept the field honors back on March 27 of this year.
Both the men's and women's track and field teams head to Walnut, Calif. next for the 54th Annual Mt. Sac Relays April 19-21. There are only two meets remaining until the 'Dogs head to Moscow, Idaho for the Western Athletic Conference Championships May 8-11.
