FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State track and field teams, coming off an extremely successful meet two weeks ago at the Sacramento State Mondo Mid-Major Challenge, will host the Bulldog Invitational this Saturday, April 26 at Warmerdam Field on the campus of Fresno State and at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
Fresno State's women won the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge, while the men brought home a second-place team finish.
The Bulldogs will welcome Mountain West Conference members UNLV and San Jose State, as well as Bakersfield, Cal Poly, Pacific and Northridge.
Two weeks ago at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Sacramento State, the Fresno State women won five events. Meagan McKee took home wins in both the hammer and discus throw. Junior Je'Nia Sears won the long jump with a leap of just over 20 feet and Fabrina Espinoza won the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 11 inches. The other Bulldog woman to win was Kyra Johnson in the 400-meter hurdles.
On the men's side, senior Roderick Dash set a new personal-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 204-03 (62.26m) to post the top collegiate throw. It also gave him a three foot lead for the top distance in the Mountain West this season.
Seniors Anthony Riggins and Kevin Poythress took home big wins. Riggins won the 100-meter dash in 10.73 seconds and Poythress won the 5,000-meter in 14:35.38. The other winner on the men's side was Keane Bland in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.64 seconds.
Olivier Bernard is coming off of a win in the Invitational section of the 1,500-meter at the Beach Invitational last weekend. The junior finished in 3:47.82 which was less than a second off his personal-best time.
Field events will get underway at Warmerdam at 10:30 a.m. The field events at Veteran's Memorial Stadium will start at 1:00 p.m. At 1:30 the running events for the Bulldog Invitational will start up.
