    Bulldog Update
    The final home meet of the year is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, when Fresno State hosts Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge in the annual "Big Three Meet" at Warmerdam Field. Field events kick off the day's action at 12:30 p.m., while running events gets underway at 4 p.m. After this weekend, the Buldogs will compete at the Modesto Relays before taking part in the 2004 WAC Outdoor Championships in Houston, Texas, on May 12-15.

    MEN'S TEAM
    Regional Report
    Two Bulldogs have already notched NCAA Regional qualifying marks: senior Joe Vasquez and junior Russell Weaver. Vasquez, who owns the team's best mark in four different events, has qualified in the hammer (206-7/62.97m), discus (174-8/53.24m) and shot put (54-1.75/16.50m). Weaver owns the top mark in the pole vault at 17-1- a personal best.

    Among the highlights on the men's side this weekend: senior Joe Vasquez notching a career-best and NCAA Regional-qualifying mark of 54-1.75/16.50m in the shot put and 187-4/57.10 in the javelin; junior Chris Berrian establishing a new personal-best in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.22 and junior Sean Marzolf improving his 800-meter time by a whole minute at 1:51.94. Overall, Fresno State was well-represented in almost every event, locking up the first-place spot in 22 of the 35 competitions.

    A Look Back: 2003 Big Three Meet
    The Bulldog men placed third in last year's tri-meet between Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly. The Mustangs captured both the men's and women's titles. Fresno State's men's team placed among the top-three finishers in 10 different events, led by Joe Vasquez. Vasquez was second in both the discus (163-04/49.78m) and the hammer (191-05/58.34m) to lead the Bulldogs in the field events. Kyle Carano improved on his regional qualifying mark by notching a 15.21m clip in the triple jump. Mark Unzueta earned a runner-up finish in the pole vault with a 4.72m showing. Alex Mason helped the 'Dogs with a time of 3:54.68 in the 1,500-meter run, also good for second place.

    First-Year Forces
    Newcomers that are listed at the top chart on the depth chart include the following: Sean Marzolf (1:51.94 in the 800-meter run and 8:39.50 in the 3,000-meter run), Ryan Moore (52.62 in the 400-meter hurdles), Robert Calzadilla (23-2 in the long jump and 45-9.25 in the triple jump).

    WOMEN'S TEAM
    Regional Report
    On the women's side, eight athletes have registered NCAA Regional qualifying marks. Three of the five comprise the Bulldog pole vaulting contingent, led by Annie Malaythong and Michelle Lennox. Both reached a career-best 12-6.25 (3.82m) back on Mar. 20 at the Cal Poly Invitational. A third vaulter, Lexine Lesser, qualified on Mar. 26 with a 12-6 (3.81m). Three freshman will also be competing in May: Mallory Webb, Katie Richardson and Zinzi Evans. Webb has tossed a 154-9.75 in the javelin, Richardson has thrown 164-8 in the discus and Evans was addded to the list as a result of her 2:08.93 time at the Fresno Relays. Recent additions include: Kara June (10:15.22 in the steeplechase) and La'Sha Hill (153-2 in the discus and 47-1.75 in the shot put).

    At the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Apr. 17, senior Kara June earned a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase competition with a time of 10:15.22. That mark qualified her for NCAA Regionals, established a new personal-best and at the time ranked sixth in the world. June, who was Fresno State's lone representative at the NCAA Championships in 2003, earned the spot last year with a wild-card entry as a result of her then personal-best 10:25.47 time- also at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Apr. 17. June has won the steeplechase at WAC Outdoor Championships three times.

    Among the highlights on the women's side this weekend: La'Sha Hill qualifying for NCAA Regionals with a career-high toss of 47-1.75/14.37m in the shot put; Lacey Gooch improving her 400-meter run time to a team-best 58.25; Stacy Hunt establishing a new personal-best vault with a 11-4.25/3.46m and Winnie Fletcher recording a personal-best and team-high 5.45m in the long jump. Overall, Fresno State was well-represented in almost every event, locking up the first-place spot in 22 of the 35 competitions.

    A Look Back: 2003 Big Three Meet
    The Bulldog women placed third in last year's tri-meet between Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly. The Bulldogs produced a total of 17 top-three finishes, including two first-place performances by Crystal Phillips (winning the 100-meters with a regional qualifying mark of 11.79 and the 200-meters at 24.21). Jennifer Tyler clocked a personal-best 2:13.39 in the 800-meters, while Annie Malaythong was tops in the pole vault at 3.65m.
