Big Three Meet Recap and Highlights
Despite only four first-place event finishes, Fresno State emerged as this year's Big Three Meet champion after edging out Cal Poly 145-140 on Saturday afternoon in the final home meet of the season at Warmerdam Field. Joe Vasquez, who owns the club's best mark in four different field events and has already qualified for NCAA Regionals in the hammer, discus and shot put, collected three of the four first-place efforts on the men's side. Sean Marzolf was the other men's individual champion, clocking in at 1:52.96 in the 800-meter run. The Bulldogs were aided by their depth throughout the day, holding down multiple spots in the top-five of any given event.
Pole Vault Supremacy
Just how good have Bulldog pole vaulters been this year? A telling example occurred last weekend during the Big Three Meet, where Bulldog athletes finished 2-3-4-5. Russell Weaver, already an NCAA Regional qualifier, established a new personal-best when he vaulted 17-4.50 (5.30m) to take second place. In addition, Adam Andresen and Leif McMurry earned NCAA Regional berths by hitting the 16-4.75 (5.00m) mark to finish third. Roy Phelps took fifth at 15-9 (4.80m).
A Look Back: 2003 Modesto Relays
Highlighting the weekend was a tremendous performance by Mark Unzueta, who notched a career-best 5.10m (16-08.75) to qualify for NCAA Regionals. Leif McMurry and Adam Andresen both registered a 4.60m (15-01) as Fresno State's only other vaulters. The Bulldog's 4x100-meter relays squad took first place honors with a time of 40.50. Phil Ogilvie ran a 4:01.04 in the 1500-meter run to finish ninth.
First-Year Forces
Newcomers that are listed at the top chart on the depth chart include the following: Sean Marzolf (1:51.94 in the 800-meter run and 8:39.50 in the 3,000-meter run), Ryan Moore (52.62 in the 400-meter hurdles), Robert Calzadilla (23-2 in the long jump and 45-9.25 in the triple jump) and Dionte Holloway (6-8 in high jump).

Big Three Meet Recap and Highlights
Fresno State placed third with 124 points behind Cal Poly (133) and Cal State Northridge (127). The Bulldogs notched just three individual event victories on the afternoon. Picking up first-place finishes for the Bulldogs were: Kara June running 10:37.70 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Michelle Lennox recording a 12-4.75 (3.78m) to win the pole vault in an event where Fresno State claimed 12 of a 16 possible points and Mallory Webb setting a new career-high in the javelin with a throw of 47.92m. All three of those athletes had already qualified for NCAA Regionals prior to the meet. Notable performances on the women's side included Lacey Gooch topping her career-best in the 400-meter run at 57.48 and Zinzi Evans running a personal-best 4:40.26 in the 1500-meter run.

At the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Apr. 17, senior Kara June earned a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase competition with a time of 10:15.22. That mark qualified her for NCAA Regionals, established a new personal-best and at the time ranked sixth in the world. June, who was Fresno State's lone representative at the NCAA Championships in 2003, earned the spot with a wild-card entry as a result of her then personal-best 10:25.47 time- also at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Apr. 17. June is a three-time WAC steeplechase titlist.
A Look Back: 2003 Modesto Relays
Crystal Phillips placed third in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.95. Mandy Hollister ran a 62.65 in the 400-meter hurdles, good for fourth overall. A trio of women's pole vaulters were in action: Annie Malaythong and Lexine Lesser tied for fifth with marks of 3.70m. La'Sha Hill took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.74m (45-01), while Jenny Moore leaped 1.58m (5-02.25) in the high jump.
