FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's track and field team has added another thrower its roster for the 2009 season. Tim Greene of Fresno City College signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Bulldogs next season.

Greene, a sophomore at Fresno City College, will compete at the California Community College Championships this weekend in the hammer, discus and shot put.

"He's just what we're looking for on our team," said Fresno State's throws coach Ramona Pagel. "His enthusiasm and potential will be a huge asset to our team."

Greene's top marks include a 187-foot, 11-inch hammer throw that would qualify him for the NCAA Regionals. He also ranks among the Ram's hammer throw Top 10 List. His shot put best is a 52-5.25, which is just three inches shy of an NCAA Regional mark. His top mark in the discus is a 171-11 and his javelin is 146-6.

"He's a young thrower," said Pagel. "He just started throwing the hammer a year ago and now he's going to state."

In high school, Greene competed for Jeff Woods at McLane High School. Greene was named MVP and captain, as well as championing the North Yosemite League in both the shot put and the discus.

"He threw a 152-foot discus in high school and is throwing almost a 172 now," said Pagel. "That's a huge improvement and I'm sure he can grow even more here at Fresno State."
