FRESNO, Calif. – 14 individuals from the Fresno State track and field team will start their pursuit of NCAA supremacy this week at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships, held Thursday, May 23-Saturday May 25.
The three days of competition will showcase the top 48 individuals and 24 relay squads in each event in the West Region. The top 12 marks in both individual events and relays from both the West and East prelims will earn qualification for the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
Among the Bulldog participants that are making the trip to the Lone Star State is Mountain West 400-meter Champion Breeauna Thompson. Thompson registered a career best 53.59 second 400 in the final and set the schools’ No. 5 all-time mark. She also qualified for the 200m when she posted a 23.79 second time at the Bulldog Open on April 27. MW Hammer Champion Meagan McKee is also no stranger to postseason competition. The junior from San Jose will be making back-to-back appearances at the preliminaries in both the hammer and shot put in Austin. McKee set a personal record when she claimed the MW hammer title on May 11 with a 204’-3” throw that set the No. 2 all-time mark in Fresno State history. It was also the fifth best throw in MW Championship history.
