    Looking to the NCAA Championships

Tim Greene will compete in the hammer throw at the NCAA Regional this weekend.

The NCAA implemented a new system for qualification to the NCAA Championships this season. In order to move on to the NCAA Championships, competitors must finish among the Top 12 in the Region. Twenty-four competitors (12 from both the East and West Region) will qualify to move on to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 9-12. This system differs from seasons past both in the regions themselves and the qualifying out of them. From 2003 until 2009, the four regions each had automatic bids for the Top 5 finishers with at-large qualifications available based upon season-best performances. This season is an "all-or-nothing" approach to the Regional. The only mark that will advance a competitor is the one posted this weekend as the Top 12 finishers will move on to the NCAA Championships.
