July 14, 2014

FRESNO, Calif. - Head coach Scott Winsor and the Fresno State track and field team announced the signing of National Letters of Intent for the 2014-15 season. Tierra Adams, Tiffany Gilmore, Manpreet Grewal, Savannah Miller and Yazmine Torres will all join the Bulldogs.

Of the five signees, four of them are throwers and one is a jumper.

"We filled some holes with two quality high jumpers and did a great job replacing what we lost in the throws," said Winsor. "This is one of the best freshman signing classes I can remember in recent history."

One of the two quality high jumpers mentioned is, Savannah Miller, from Redlands High School in Redlands, Calif. She had a life-time best jump of 5'11" (1.80m) at the 2014 Covina Invitational and set a school and track meet record. That jump put her on the Top 10 Performance List for the State and the Nation. Miller went on to win the 2014 CIF Southern Section Division II Finals, and competed in the 2014 CIF State Track and Field meet. At the State meet she tied for eighth place with a jump of 5'6" (1.68m).

Tierra Adams had a standout season at John Muir High School in Pasadena, Calif. where she excelled at both shot put and discus for the Mustangs. Adams won her second consecutive CIF Southern Section Division IV title in the shot put with a throw of 42'04" (12.90m). Her personal-best in the shot put was 48'10" (14.88m) which she recorded at the Pacific League Finals. She went on to throw at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet and placed seventh with a throw of 42'01" (12.85m), which was far enough to qualify for the CIF State Championship. There, Adams went on to finish seventh in the shot put with a throw of 43'09" (13.33m). Adams finished her senior season being named as Female Athlete of the Year by the Pasadena Star.

Tiffany Gilmore is another exceptional California Southern Section thrower. Gilmore was a student-athlete at Centennial High School in Compton, Calif. and was a captain for both Track and Field and Basketball. Gilmore currently holds the Centennial High School records in the discus and the shot put. She competed at the 2014 CIF State Track and Field Championships in the shot put where she placed 12th with a throw of 41'-01" (12.52m). Gilmore also was a member of the 2010 CIF Division II-A Championship Girls volleyball team.

Manpreet Grewal is from Abbotsford, British Columbia and will be another addition to the Bulldog's throws team. She was a member of Team Canada, which brought her international competition experience. She competed in the IAAF World Youth Championships in 2013 where she placed 14th in the discus. Grewal is a two-time qualifier for the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships in the discus and once in the hammer. She lists her personal-best marks in the 4kg hammer as 164' (50.10m) and has a discus personal-best of 146' (44.65m).

Yazmine Torres rounds out the signing class for the Bulldogs this season. Torres is former student-athlete from Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, Calif. Torres is a three-time Southwestern League champion in the discus. She went on to throw a season's best of 131'10" (40.18m) to place 13th and the CIF State Championships.

Also joining the high jump unit is Maciah Murray, who has jumped 5'10.75" (1.85m) and will help the Bulldogs compete in both the Mountain West and the NCAAs.
