Track Announces 2009 Schedule
Oct. 22, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - As the fall semester nears an end, it's time for Fresno State's track and field to step into the spotlight. The 2009 season has been finalized and shows some major differences from last season. With new head coach Scott Winsor leading the way, the women's indoor events become more prominent in the upcoming season. Fresno State will compete in the Boise State Invitational and the high caliber New Mexico Invitational. "The women have been working really hard and are excited for the indoor season," Winsor said. Winsor's goal this year was to upgrade the overall schedule to give the student-athletes a picture of where they want to go in the future. Many of last year's meets have kept their place in the upcoming season, like the USC Invitational and the Mt. SAC relays. The `Dogs will be traveling up and down the coast of California, before competing at the NCAA Regionals in Eugene, Ore., and the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. There will both a home indoor and home outdoor meet for Fresno State fans, as the Bulldogs take the track inside the Save Mart Center for the Run for the Dream and head outside to Warmerdam for a dual meet. The new additions to the season hope to raise the bar for Fresno State track and field. The Cal Quadrangular meet at Berkeley, Calif., is also a new addition to the schedule, adding a "good quality meet early in the season." The spring trip to Tempe, Arizona, for the Arizona State Invitational is for "upper end athletes" from across the country and will be a "great place to train" according to Winsor. The new Fresno State head coach is excited to start his first season. "We plan to up the level periodically throughout the year," Winsor said. "The opportunity is there and the student-athletes will take advantage of it." Check out the 2009 Track & Field Schedule Here.
