FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State track and field coach Scott Winsor released his 2014 indoor and outdoor schedule on Wednesday and it will feature two home meets during the outdoor season. The Bulldogs kick off the season when the women will head to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Air Force Academy Indoor Invitational on January 23-25.
The indoor season also consists of two trips to Seattle to compete in meets hosted by the University of Washington. The indoor season wraps up with another trip to Colorado Springs for the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships hosted by the Air Force Academy.
"The indoor schedule will give us a pretty good look at the competition in the Mountain West Conference," Winsor said. "It will give us a pretty good idea of where we are in the conference and what we need to work on."
In the outdoor season, the Fresno State men and women field competitors will open with the Cal Opener in Berkeley, Calif., against Cal and Stanford. Along with that meet and the two trips to meets hosted by the University of Washington during the indoor season, the team will also travel to the Stanford Invitational on April 4-5 to give the team plenty of chances to go against PAC-12 competition.
"We're always trying to attract the best recruits as possible," Winsor said. "When you can put together a schedule that allows you to compete against PAC-12 schools and you can show that then it helps with recruiting and getting our kids ready for the Mountain West."
The Bulldogs will be at home twice during the outdoor season. The first meet will be a dual meet with Cal Poly at Veteran's Memorial Stadium on March 15. Then, after a busy month and a half, Fresno State will return to Veteran's Memorial Stadium to host the Bulldog Invitational on April 26.
There are three chances for the Bulldogs to see competition from across the country mixed into the schedule. The first will be at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational on March 21-22. The following weekend, Fresno State will travel to the Texas Relays on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. On April 17-19, the Bulldogs will compete in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
The Mountain West Championships are in Laramie, Wyo., this season and will be May 14-17. That will be followed by the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Fayetteville , Ark., on May 29-31. The 2014 NCAA Championships are June 11-14 on the campus of the University of Oregon.
