SUNNYVALE, Calif. - The men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up its regular season Saturday at the Bronco Invitational. The women's team placed fifth with 184 points in a 16-team field, while the men placed 11th with 230 points against 18 other schools.
Kristen Galvez paced the women's team in its 5000-meter race timing in at 17:45.2 and collected 17 points for the 'Dogs. Galvez's 5K on Saturday was an 18-second improvement after recording an 18:03.8 at the Hornet Jamboree on Sept. 8. Saylah Barserian crossed the finish line with a time of 17:50.3. Her mark scored 23 points on the day. Marrijte Molenhuis (18:00.5) trailed behind Barserain and led Carina Mendoza (18:13.3) and Meagan Paracholski (18:24.1) to round out the five point-winners.
On the men's side the `Dogs ran its third 8000-meter race this season. Olivier Bernard continued to be a leader as he finished the 8K with a 24:29.3, which scored 16 points for the Bulldogs. Danny Vartanian timed in behind Bernard at 24:43.4 scoring 29 points. Following the top two 'Dogs were Michael Jamieson (24:57.4), Kevin Poythress (25:09.5) and Carson Keller (25:29.8).
Four Bulldogs sketched their names into Fresno State history Saturday as they set all-time best times.
On the women's 5K top-25 list, Galvez's time ranks as the 18th best all-time while Barserain's was the 19th.
The men's top-25 list now includes Bernard's time at the Bronco Invite, which sits as the 15th all-time best 8K as well as Vartanian's mark which placed him having the 22nd best.
Inaugural Mountain West Championship
The 'Dogs compete next in two weeks at its first-ever Mountain West Championship meet on Oct. 26, hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev.
