Cross Country Finishes Sixth At Cal Poly Invitational Against Strong Competition

Fresno, Calif. - The Frenso State cross country team traveled to San Luis Obispo for the Cal Poly Invitaional on Saturday, placing sixth against 11 strong teams from within the state. The sixth-place finish put them just behind WAC rival San Jose State in fifth. It also put the team ahead of Santa Clara University for the first time in three tries.
Sophomore Andrea Buckner was once again the top finisher for the Bulldogs. She finished in fifth place overall, her highest placement of the year. She crossed the line in 18:28.8, her third time under 19 minutes in competion this year.
Another solid finish for the Bulldogs came from Zinzi Evans. The sophomore continued her steady improvement, recording her second straght no. 2 finish for the Bulldogs, crossing the line in 19:07.8, putting her 25th overall.
The rest of the scoring runners for the Bulldogs included three seniors. Nicolin Neal came in 37th, with a time of 19:28.5. Jennifer Tyler, finished in 46th with a time of 19:45.1, and Courtney Stewart finished just behind her in 48th in 19:47.9.
The team now has the week off before traveling to the WAC Championships in Ruston, La. on Oct. 30. Last year, the team finished fifth in the WAC.
