FRESNO, Calif.-- Marrijtje Molenhuis will join the Bulldogs cross country team starting the 2009 season as she has signed a national letter of intent to compete for Fresno State. Molenhuis will join the team this fall as a true freshman out of Christian School District Vincent Van Gogh in Assen, Netherlands. Back home, Molenhuis built a nice list of accomplishments which include, finishing second in the Dutch juniors in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meter events in 2008 and finishing third in both events in the 2009.

Bulldog coaches got the inside scoop about Molenhuis from returning sophomore Paul Zwama, who is also an International recruit from the Netherlands and dominated the long distance events in his first year as a Bulldog, registering the top time in the conference in both the 5k and 10k events. Zwama saw pursuing Molenhuis a must and Fresno State cross country coach Steve McManus couldn't agree more.

"Marrijtje brings a whole lot of International experience to the table, which should prove to be beneficial to us and all of her teammates," said McManus. "She will be a top performer for us right off the bat and we look for her to score a lot of points for us in the middle distance events in track as well."

The Bulldogs welcome Molenhuis with open arms and with this addition look to be a force to be reckoned with in the 2009-10 race for the WAC Championship.
