Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State Women's Cross Country team kicks off the 2004 season with the 39th annual Watermelon Run. The Watermelon Run will consist of three races, and all three are open to the public as well as this year's cross country team. The three races tradianally run include a 4-mile race, a 2-mile race, and a 1-mile race. Participants wishing to compete can meet on the Fresno State campus by the Bulldog Diamond. Everyone running in the event will be split into age groups, and the top times will be posted for each group. Last year Roosevelt Cook, a former Fresno State runner, was the big winner in the 4-mile main event coming in at 19:46. This event serves as a warmup for the women's cross country team, and as a chance to allow fans to meet this year's squad and enjoy some watermelon. The next meets for the team are the Bronco Invitational and the Stanislaus Invitational. Both events are on September 4th.
