FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Seattle, Wash. this weekend as they get set to compete in the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park, Sept. 15, hosted by the University of Washington. Lincoln Park starts and finishes on a grass playing field, while the rest of the course is a mixture of grass, dirt, light gravel and bark chips. The women's 6K will get underway at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11:35 a.m.
The men's and women's teams both rebounded from a slow start in the opening race of the season in grand fashion last time out, highlighted by Lyndsie Etherton racing to a first-place finish individually and the Bulldogs capturing first-place at the Hornet Jamboree. Etherton timed in at 17:13.7 at the 5K, a personal best. Her time also tied for the second-fastest 5K in women's Fresno State cross country history. Etherton was later garnered with Mountain West Women's Athlete of the Week honors for her performance.
The men's team placed second at the Hornet Jamboree behind solid efforts from Danny Vartanian and Olivier Bernard. The two placed seventh and eight individually, crossing the finish line within a tenth of a second of each other in the four-mile race. Vartanian came in at 19:56.1, while Bernard timed in at 19:56.2.
Race weather is predicted to be partly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the lower 70's and lows in the mid 50's.
