Fresno, Calif. - After taking the week off, the Fresno State cross country team will travel to Palo Alto on Saturday, Sept. 29, for the Stanford Invitational. The men are scheduled to race an 8K at 9:50 a.m., while the women are set to begin their 6K at 10:30 a.m. The meet will be run at the Stanford University Golf Course.
The 'Dogs will look to start back where they left off after placing second in both the men's and women's events at the Sundodger Invitational, Sept. 15. The women were ranked No. 14 in the West Region by the USTFCCCA after its performance, the first ranking the team has received under Sean McManus in his five years as head coach of the 'Dogs. Individually, Olivier Bernard and Lyndsie Etherton swept Mountain West Athlete of the Week awards for their performances last time out.
Etherton claimed her second consecutive Mountain West Athlete of the Week honor as she outperformed her peers at the Hornet Jamboree and Sundodger Invitational. Etherton placed first at the Hornet Jamboree and fourth overall at the Sundodger. Etherton recorded Fresno State's third all-time best 5K with a time of 17:13.7 at the Hornet Jamboree and shredded the all-time 6K by 12 seconds at the Sundodger, timing in at 20:58.34.
Bernard took his first Athlete of the Week honor of his career after the Sundodger, finishing fourth individually with a time of 24:14.53. His time marked the ninth-best men's 8K ran by a Bulldog in the history of the program.
Race weather in Palo Alto is forecasted to be partly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the mid 80's and lows in the mid 50's.
